11 killed, 30 injured in Balkh mosque bombing

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): At least 11 people were killed and 30 others injured in a blast at a mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, on Thursday, officials said.

The blast took place at around 1am on the outskirts of Mazar-i-Sharif’s second police district as people were attending afternoon prayers.

Balkh Public Health Director NajibullahTawan asaid that 11 people were killed and 30 others were injured in the incident. The condition of six injured was critical, he said.

However, Balkh police spokesman, Mohammad Asif Waziri said 10 people had been killed and 15 others wounded in the blast.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
