Kunduz residents complain about lack of medicines in civil hospital

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): A number of residents of northern Kunduz province are complaining about lack of medicines at the provincial hospital, saying they must purchase the drugs they need from the market.

Painda Mohammad, a resident of Kunduz City, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “First of all the doctors do not examine patients properly, and then they write the prescription to buy the medicine from the market.”

He said pharmacies in the city sold medicines worth 100afs for 500afs.

Niamatulllah, another resident, also called the lack of medicines in the provincial hospital a serious problem and urged the government to address the problem in the earliest possible.

“There is harsh economic situation in Afghanistan, the patients purchase medicines from pharmacies of the city which are expensive so the people are unable to buy and the government must pay attention to their problem.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Najibullah Sahil, director of public health, acknowledged the lack of medicine and said: “The problem of medicine is not that big as claimed by the people, we have controlled the pharmacies and no one is allowed to sell the medicine at higher price, and the problem will be addressed.”
