3 companies win gypsum, marble mines contracts

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum on Tuesday said that three companies had won the extraction contracts of gypsum and marble mines in Herat, Takhar and Maidan Wardak provinces.

The ministry in a statement received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that the mines being extracted included Ghorian Gypsum Mine in Herat, Farkhar Gypsum Mine in Takhar and a marble mine in Maidan Wardak province.

The source said that the bidding process for gypsum and marble mines was held today in the presence of the companies’ representatives and an appointed delegation in a transparent manner, as a result of which three companies were awarded the contracts for extracting the mines.

Bast Etemad Mining and Processing Company had offered 450 afghanis for extraction of per ton of gypsum, Shar-i-Meyana Mining Company offered 350 afghanis for extraction of per ton of gypsum, Gul Nama Mining and Processing Company had offered 410 afghanis for extraction of per ton of marble.

Officials of the former government had been complaining about illegal extraction of mines by powerful individuals.
