Cabinet approves 231.1b afs budget for ongoing fiscal year

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate leadership and cabinet have approved a 231.4 billion afghanis budget for the ongoing fiscal year, an official said on Saturday.

Deputy Prime Minister Mawlavi Abdul Salaam Hanafi told Pajhwok Afghan News that 203.4 billion afs had been allocated for general expenses while 27.9 billion had been set aside for development activities. The entire budget is supported by domestic sources, he added.

“Though this budget is facing a 44 billion afs deficit, yet the Islamic Emirate would go through the same budget plan until the end of this fiscal year,” said Hanafi.

He said vital development projects that had direct impact on public life were included in the development budget.

He said for improved services to the people and education development, the human resource sectors of education and health ministries had been strengthened.

He said 24,000 more new positions had been created in the Education Ministry. About the health ministry, he did not provide any details.

Last year, Ashraf Ghani-led government approved 473.4 billion afs budget, with 311.5 billion afs going to general budget and 161.1 billion afs to development activities.
