KABUL (Pajhwok): The Passport Department says some ‘profiteers’ have recently started selling fake passports printed abroad.
A statement from the Passport Department received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that detective officers of the department had arrested many people involved in the distribution of fake passports.
It said the detainees had confessed to their crimes that they illegally printed white passports in a neighboring country and then smuggled them to Afghanistan.
The statement did not name the country where the passports were printed, but said that the booklets were not only not registered with the Passport Department, but their fakeness was easily identifiable and warned those holding it would be taken to justice
About the detainees, the Passport Department said that it was a group of counterfeiters, some of whom have been arrested and the rest are being chased by intelligence forces.
“Corruption is now eliminated in the Passport Department and the daily work of all employees is under close supervision of the leadership of this department,” the source said.
“The Passport Department urges all applicants not to be deceived by counterfeiters and commissioners and not to pay anyone for obtaining a passport,” the department added.
The statement said that passport services are provided to applicants on a daily basis at the central department of passport in Kabul, and that people can apply for the service online without any problems.
The statement said that Passport Department has a commission comprised of health professionals for checking the documents of people with serious illnesses and issue passport to ailing people in short period of time.
