GARDEZ (Pajhwok): At least 100 weapons and 20 vehicles have been seized during a house-to-house search operation in southeastern Paktia province.
The clearing operation was launched in Gardez City and neighboring areas around one month ago.
Police spokesman Omar-ul-Badri told Pajhwok Afghan News the clearing operation was launched in suspected areas and houses.
About 100 weapons and 20 vehicles were seized during the operation, he said, adding that some government equipment and tools that had been kept illegally were also captured.
He added the clearing operation was still underway in Gardez city and nearby areas and the aim was to maintain public order and security.
Albadri said about 20 individuals had been arrested during the operation and released based on bail.
Habib Rahman Rahimi, a resident of Gardez, told Pajhwok: “We welcome any step taken for maintaining security.”
He said still some people kept unnecessary illegal weapons in their houses.
