Pistachio harvest to reach 200 tons in Baghlan this year

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Pistachio harvest is estimated to be two and a half fold higher this year, compared to last year’s yield.

Raz Mohammad Ahmadzai, director of agriculture, forests and natural resources, told Pajhwok Afghan News in an exclusive interview that pistachio trees were grown naturally in Dehna Ghori, Baghlan-i-Markazi, Doshi, Nahrin and Khanjan districts of the province.

Pistachio forests are spread over 37,000 hectares of land, he said, adding that last year the pistachio yield reached 80 tons but this year it would jump to 200 tons.

He linked the increase in pistachio yield to the appointment of working teams to look after the forests.

According to Ahmadzai, the pistachio harvest collection will be based on a proper plan and willful collection will be prevented.

Hanafi Mohammadi, a resident of Khwaja Alwan area, also believed that the pistachio yield would be significantly high this year.
