UN Human Rights Council to meet on Afghan women’s rights

KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations Human Rights Council is convening an urgent debate on Friday (July 1) to address the human rights of women and girls in Afghanistan.

The UN Human Rights Council wrote on its Twitter page that the meeting would be held next Friday  during the 50th session of the council.

Some international organizations have already raised concerns about women’s rights in Afghanistan.

But officials of the Afghanistan’s caretaker government say women are given all rights enshrined in Sharia law.

Officials say female government employees are currently paid their salaries at home and will be called back to work after a safe environment is provided to them.

The government has also closed girls high and secondary schools, saying they are working on a plan in this regard and the girls schools above sixth grade would be reopened once the plan is completed.
