Syedabad residents construct school at own cost

MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): The Residents of the Syedabad district in central Maidan Wardak Province have succeeded in constructing 60 percent of a school building at their own cost.

The residents of the Gurbut area appealed to the government for assistance to complete the remaining work.

Engineer HazarGul, who has been voluntarily teaching the children of the locality for 11 years, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “I began teaching the students of ‘Ghazi Taj Mohammad Khan middle school’ in 2011 under the open sky. After two months of teaching, I got the approval for the primary school from the government and in 2014 the school was upgraded to intermediate school”.

He added that about 90 percent of residents of the remote and deprived area were illiterate, but they loved education.

Sayed Habib, the school headmaster, told Pajhwok it was the third year that students graduated from the ninth class and were then admitted to high schools for further studies.

Pajhwok shared the issue of the incomplete building of the middle school with provincial education officials.

MawlaviGulWali, the education director, said they lacked resources but promised to share the issue with donors to get funds for the remaining work of the school building.
