Herat drivers complain about illegal speed breakers

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): A number of drivers in western Herat province have expressed concern about so many illegally built speed breakers on the roads, alleys, and streets and urged their demolishing.

Abdul Hai, a taxi driver, told Pajhwok Afghan News that substandard speed breakers had created many problems for drivers. He urged to officials to demolish these speed bumbs.

Abdul Qadir, another driver, told Pajhwok some people had willfully built speed breakers which created problems.

Meanwhile, technical engineers also expressed concern about the arbitrary construction of speed bumps.

Engineer Qasim Ghani says: “The construction of self-made speed bumps with cement, clay and stones and at a high height on the roads causes the destruction of the roads and sometimes they also damage the undercarriage of cars.”

He asked the relevant departments to prevent arbitrary creation of speed bumps and to create standard speed breakers in order to prevent the destruction of roads and traffic accidents.

Ghulam Nabi Farokh, director of traffic management in Herat, said: “Speed breakers built in some parts of the districts are not standard, but recently some standard speed breakers were built in parts of the city.”

Khusal Selab, municipality official, said his department had decided to demolish all speed breakers that were illegally built and build standard speed breakers at the required points.
