KABUL (Pajhwok): Health experts say ginger’s efficiency to prevent or cure Covid-19 has no scientific basis as reports circulated on social media about the effectiveness of ginger against the virus.

The health experts say ginger is effective in boosting immunity but its efficiency against Covid-19 is yet to be scientifically proven.

Mashriq new agency published a video titled “The outcome of a clinical study on Covid patients shows that ginger, cinnamon and thyme are effective in the treatment of this disease.”

In the video clip a doctor says he recommended ginger to his coronavirus patients and found that it had positive results.

He added those who consumed ginger recovered faster and the death rate significantly reduced.

Also, Wahi Halimyar Tokhi, one of the Facebook users, published an article titled “My experience with the Covid is that when infected with the virus I used ginger tea along with other treatment and got good result.”

“By eating fruits, drinking ginger tea with lemon and honey, Nigella sativa, healthy food and enough sleep completely relieved me in three to eight days, because I strengthened the immune system using these things.”

An internet page named “World of Economic” published an article titled “These medicines prevent coronavirus.” According to the report, the consumption of some medicinal plants such as ginger had a great effect in prevention of coronavirus.

Citizens: ginger is a good remedy against Covid-19

Ahmad Aziz, a resident of 11th police district of Kabul, told Pajhwok: “I contracted the virus during the second wave, so my relatives advised me to use ginger tea.”

He said: “After drinking the ginger tea, I got better.” He added using ginger tea turned to a habit in his house.

Aziz called ginger the best remedy against Covid and urged the people not to forget using ginger.

Heath experts: ginger’s efficiency has no scientific basis.

Dr. Hashmatullah Faizi, a senior official of the Afghan-Japan Covid-19 Hospital in Kabul, told Pajhwok: “Ginger is a herbal that we recommend to patients after the outbreak of the virus.”

He said ginger had anti-inflammatory nature and boost the immunity and effective in treatment of Covid.

But he said that the efficiency of the ginger was yet to be proven against Covid-19.

Dr. Mohammad Hashim Wahaj, director of Wahaj private hospital, told Pajhwok no research had so far been done over the effectiveness of ginger against Covid.

“Although ginger is a nutritious food and is used both as flavoring and medicine, researchers in the world have warned that some people should be careful in its consumption it may have side effects and even dangerous consequences.”

According to him, with all the things that ginger has, it may harm the patients nerve system and brain.

“It is currently said that ginger is not as effective in preventing and treating coronavirus as it was said in the beginning. It is better not to exceed the limit of moderation and use it in the normal amount that was used before.”

Wahaj advised that it was better to use fruits and vegetables in addition to the following guidelines during and before contracting this disease.

Meanwhile, social media users and some people emphasized the effectiveness of ginger for coronavirus patients, and the same content is shared on social media that doctors consider ginger to be an effective herb, but they say that the effectiveness of this herb has not been proven yet.
