US war in Afghanistan was a total disaster: Khan

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Neighbours will benefit from peace and stability in Afghanistan, believes former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan.

In an interview with an Iranian media outlet, he said: “Both countries host millions of Afghan refugees, which is impacting social and economic conditions of Afghanistan’s neighbors.”

After four decades of conflict, the ex-cricketer noted, space had been created for lasting peace in Afghanistan. “We expect the current rulers of this country to fulfill their commitments.”

Speaking to IRNA, he cautioned the world against imposing its own model or style of human rights on the Afghans, who had their own values and traditions.

The global fraternity should not insist on sanctioning and avoiding interaction with the current rulers of Afghanistan, the ex-premier opined.

Khan went on to remark: “Unfortunately, the US war in Afghanistan was a complete disaster, they were not aware of targets, fighting there without knowing the true meaning of victory.”

By joining the US-led war in Afghanistan, Khan said, hs country had lost 80,000 soldiers and civilians in addition to over 100 million dollars.
