Kajaki Dam power generation capacity surges to 151MW

KABUL (Pajhwok): The second phase of the Kajaki Hydropower dam in southern Helmand province was inaugurated on Wednesday, which would help increase the dam’s power generation capacity from 51MW to 151MW.

According to reports, earlier the Kajaki Dam produced 51MW of electricity, but a Turkish Construction Company started work on the operation of three more turbines, which helped increase the power generation capacity of the dam to 151MW.

Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Salaam Hanafi told the inauguration gathering that the government had the ability to facilitate investors.

He asked individuals who invested in the war and fighting in Afghanistan in the past to invest in the economic development of the country at this stage.

“Afghanistan has been liberated at the cost of heavy sacrifices, administration corruption has been eradicated, land grabbing and ethnical and sectarian biasness eliminated,” said Hanafi.

Deputy prime minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Beradar said Afghanistan could not be built by foreign aid and assistance. The people of Afghanistan could reconstruct their country in their own capacity and encourage local products.

Turkish Ambassador Cihad Erginay in his remarks said that Kajaki Dam would provide more electricity to Kandahar and Helmand provinces.

“Turkey and Afghanistan relationship is deep and strong which is manifested by projects like Kajaki,” he said.
