FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): Residents of Ghor province complain about the increase in taxi and transport fares and urge officials to address the problem in the earliest possible.

Allauddin Rasouli, a resident of Ghor, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “The fare is very high, we used to pay 600 to 1,500 afghanis for traveling to Herat province but currently the back seat fare has been increased to 1,500afs and the front seat’s  fare to 2,200afs.”

Sayed Anwar, a passenger of Ghor-Kabul highway, said: “We used to pay low fare but recently the passenger vehicles charge high fare and I have no idea what has happened.”

Sayed Anwar also urged the government to control other prices, including the fare of passenger cars.

Ghulam Sarwar, a passenger on Ghor-Chaharsada district road, also complained about the high fare while traveling on this road.

He said: “We used to pay 300 to 350 afghanis fare, currently we have to pay 500 afs to 650 afs, which is a big difference and the government should control the hike in fares and take legal action against those who artificially increase the fare.”

On the other hand, some drivers say they are forced to increase the fare due to the increase in fuel prices.

Farid Ahmad, a driver on the Ghor-Herat highway, told Pajhwok: “Fuel has become very expensive, we buy a liter of fuel for 130 afs, while it used to be for 70, 80 or 90 afghanis. We can’t afford a low fare at this price.”

According to a Pajhwok Afghan News report, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced that thousands of tonnes of liquefied gas will enter market across the country.

Hafiz Zia-ul-Haq Jandullah, land transport commander, said: “Some drivers are charging increased fares because of the fuel price hike as petrol price has increased to 130 afghanis a liter.”
