Mega projects to be implemented with domestic revenue: Minister

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Water and Energy Minister Abdul Latif Mansoor on Saturday said the government wanted to execute large projects using domestic revenues and with support of traders.

Mansoor made the remarks during a visit to Chinarto district of central Uruzgan province to inspect a water dam located between Tirinkot and Chinarto district in Agha Jan area.

Thousands of hectares of land will be irrigated with the dam’s construction. The dam project was launched four decades ago during the time of Sardar Mohammad Dawood Khan, but is yet to be completed.

The previously government thrice surveyed the dam site, but delayed its construction due to insecurity.

The acting water and energy minister told media in the Agha Jan area that he had come to visit the area following the demands of people and the leadership direction.

He added the Islamic Emirate was committed to building water dams in a number of provinces besides the Agha Jan dam.

He said the people wanted the Agha Jan dam to be completed and currently two businessmen had promised to provide $5,000 and $10,000 for the project.

Haji Muzamil, deputy governor, said the Agha Jan dam project was a huge and important project and thousands of acres of land would be irrigated with its construction.

Rahmatullah, the water management department official, said the Agha Jan dam project would cover 15,000 hectares of land and would produce 15MW of electricity.

Haji Habibullah is a businessman of the province who pledged $10,000 for the project.

Haji Ibrahim, a resident of Chinarto district, said if the Agha Jan dam was constructed, their lands would get irrigated.
