Farah handicraft business improved lately

FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Some individuals associated with handicraft business in western Farah province said situation has improved now compared to the past and their businesses also influenced by the positive changes.

Haji Juma Khan, a resident of the Bulandi village of Peshtroad district, who owns a handicrafts shop in Farah city, said his business had grown compared to the past

He said: “I have been working in this field from the past 20 years, but his year the market is doing well.”

He said carpets, rugs and other handicraft items of daily use were made in the Farah City and Qala Ka district and then brought to the market for sale.

Abdul Hamid, the resident of Farah City, said that Iranian and Turkish goods had increased in the market and it had negative impact on domestic handicrafts market.

He urged the government to prevent the import of handicraft products from other countries in order to promote local handicraft items.

Provincial Commerce and Industry Director Haji Shakir Ayubi also acknowledged the growth of handicrafts in the province.

He said the growth of handicrafts was satisfactory and efforts underway to explore more market for these products.
