PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Floods-affected families in Khoshi district of central Logar province say assistance provided by aid organizations is not transparently distributed and families living in camps face numerous problems.

Sadiqullah, a tribal elder from Khoshi district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that nearly 600 flood-affected families lived in the camp in front of the district headquarters and the aid did not reach them transparently.

He alleged families who had connections were able to receive the aid and other families were paid no attention.

“There is no transparency in the distribution of aid. The aid is not distributed according to the lists. The affected families should be distributed aid in a transparent way because some families lost their beloved ones to the floods, some were injured and they lost their house belongings.”

Another resident of the camp, Mohammad Asif, told Pajhwok they led  a miserable life in the camp and many families were yet to receive tents and food items.

He asked local and foreign aid giving agencies to urgently provide assistance to the flood-affected families and save them from the ongoing crisis.

“If someone from his home brings us meal, we eat that otherwise we remain hungry. See my tent, no one has assisted me.”

Head of a charity foundation, Syed Ahmed Silab, told Pajhwok Afghan News that through his personal charity foundation, he helped hundreds of flood-affected families with tents and food items and the assitance continued

Assistance provided by institutions and charities to the flood-affected families of Khoshi district was not sufficient and the government and the international community should rebuild houses of the flood-affected families of Logar province

“Flood-affected families of Khoshi district need everything to live. They have nothing when new displaced families arrive. The international community and the government should provide immediate assistance to the flood-affected families.”

Director of Information and Culture of Logar, Rafiullah Samim, told Pajhwok that the aid to flood-affected families in Khoshi district was distributed transparently by a commission.

He added that the commission comprised of officials from the information and culture, the rural reconstruction and development, the agriculture and livestock departments, the refugee affairs directorate and also the police headquarters of Logar province.

He said the aid was distributed in a transparent manner and no one was privileged and the whole process went transparently.

This week, heavy rains triggered floods in Pul-i-Alam, Khoshi and Muhammad Agha district, leaving 20 people dead and 40 others injured. The floods destroyed  3,000 houses and killed 200,000 livestock.
