TALOQAN (Pajhwok): A young girl committed suicide after a verbal clash with her family members in the Dasht-i-Qala district of northern Takhar province, police said on Wednesday.
According to security officials, the girl first used rat poison, then stabbed herself with a knife and later set herself on fire.
Jananuddin Ansar, crime branch chief of the district, identified the girl to Pajhwok Afghan News as Bibi Hawa who was 15 years old.
According to him, the girl committed suicide as a result of family dispute.
Civil society activist Hamed Qarlaq said such incidents resulted from the increase in unemployment, poverty and schools’ closure.
In northern Faryab province, an 18-year-old girl committed suicide with a shotgun in Maimana, the provincial capital.
