Daikundi residents decide to discourage costly traditions

NEILI (Pajhwok): Holding a gathering, residents of Miramor district of central Daikundi province have decided to discourage some unpleasant and expensive traditions in the society and instead collect the money and build a school.

Mohammad Arif Arfifi, one of the residents of Bargar area of the district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Nalaj was a small village with a population of 950 families located in the Bargar area.

He said people in most areas of Daikandi including their village used to spend money on unnecessary ceremonies and traditions and for this reason, the residents of their village gathered on Friday in order to address the issue.

According to him, one of the traditions has been taking a heavy toll on the youth.

Before and after marriage, most of the young people have to choose the path of migration and work in neighboring countries to pay for their wedding expenses, dowry or others, Arifi explained.

He said it was decided in the gathering that if a person dies, the family of the deceased would not invite all residents of the area to the Rasmi Qul ceremony.

He said other unnecessary expenses on welcoming hajj pilgrims and others would be reduced.

Seyyed Baqir Alavi, a religious scholar in Miramor district, told Pajhwok that considering the economic condition of the people, the residents of “Nalaj” village were happy with the new decisions and urged other people to avoid heavy expenses in such events.
