Airport service fee hiked, says deputy minister

KABUL (Pajhwok): The caretaker government has hiked the airport service fee for domestic and international flights, a newspaper reported on Monday.

The Kabul Times said prices of international and domestic tickets had gone up by $20 and $5 respectively with effect from the current month.

Deputy Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Ghulam Jailani Wafa told the daily Kabul, Kandahar, Herat and Mazar-i-Sharif airports had implemented the service fee spike.

He argued the passenger tax was aimed to cover the cost of ground services provided by the UAE-based firm GAAC. The tax, according to him, is common at all international airports.

Such services were previously funded by international donors, the report said, adding the burden was currently being shouldered the Islamic Emirate.
