Attack near Russian embassy widely condemned

ATLANTA (Pajhwok): A bombing close to the Russian embassy in Kabul, which killed six people, including two Russian diplomats, has been widely condemned.

The explosion took place in front of the Russian embassy in the 7th police district of Kabul shortly before 11:00 am on Monday.

Kabul police confirmed two Russian diplomats and four civilians were killed and a number of others wounded in the powerful suicide bombing.

The Islamic State (IS) — locally known as Daesh — claimed responsibility for the attack, which drew strong denunciation from different countries and organisations.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the bombing, saying attacks on diplomatic missions were against international humanitarian law.

He extended his condolences to families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

In a statement, the European Union office flayed the attack and called the killing of innocent civilians a barbaric act.

US Special Representative for Afghanistan Tom West condemned the blast and extended his deepest condolences to the families of the victims.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office expressed its grave concern over the killing of innocent Afghans in the attack.

Meanwhile, China, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Turkey, India, Kazakhstan, Qatar and a number of other countries also condemned the bombing.
