SHARAN (Pajhwok): The construction of a commissary complex costing 34 million afghanis has kicked off in southeastern Paktika province.

The establishment of the commissary complex will help resolve people’s problems and enable them to travel to Pakistan on passports and visas.

The complex is being established by the Ministry of Interior near the Angor Ada gate on the Durand Line. The project will be completed within a year.

Maulvi Elhamuddin, deputy director of construction at MoI, told Pajhwok Afghan News the two-storey commissary complex would house 30 administrative offices and would have other necessary rooms.

He said they were building the complex in response to public demands as people were facing transportation problems.

Haji Sami, an elderly passenger who waited for his turn to cross the Durand Line along with a patient, said: “Today is is the fifth day I have been waiting here. There is no hotel or food facility here. The government of Pakistan is insulting us.”

Sami urged the caretaker government to talk to Pakistani authorities on addressing the problems of the people and ensure that passengers travelled easily.

Governor Maulvi Abdul Mukhtar promised people’s problems would be addressed with the construction of the commissary complex, which would facilitate cross-Durand Line commuters.

“Our leadership suggested approval for building a commissary here to resolve problems of the people. A passport office branch will be opened and all facilities made available here,” he added.
