Woman stabbed to death; man commits suicide

PUL-I-KHUMRI/LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): A man killed his wife in Pul-i-Khumri city of northern Baghlan province yesterday, when a man committed suicide in southern Helmand province, officials said Saturday.

Maulvi Abdul Fatah Rahimi, information and culture department director of Baghlan province, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “A man after a verbal dispute stabbed and killed his wife with a knife.”

The accused has surrendered to police and confessed to his crime, Rahimi added.

Abdullah Maland, Public Health Department spokesman, also confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News that the body of a 45-year-old woman was brought to the provincial hospital and relatives of the victim said she was stabbed in the neck by her husband.

The incident comes three months after an old woman was killed at her house in Nahrin district of the province.

Elsewhere, a man committed suicide at his shop in the first security district of Lashkargah city, the capital of southern Helmand province, last night.

Maulvi Mohammad Qasim Riaz, Deputy Director of Information and Culture, identified the person as Mohammad Naeem to Pajhwok, who was a shopkeeper in a market.

He said: “Mohammad Naeem killed himself in his shop yesterday and security forces found his body in the shop at 8pm last night.”

Without giving details, Riaz said he spoke to the family members of the deceased and they told him that Naeem had no enmity with anyone.
