MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Residents of northern Balkh province urge the caretaker government to equip security personnel with uniforms to control different crimes.
Ghulam Shah, a resident of the province, told Pajhwok Afghan News a number of people posing as security personnel had created problems for the people.
He said: “We ask the government to provide police and military personnel with uniforms because they cannot be easily distinguished from illegal armed men and robbers.”
Haji Kabir, who belongs to Mazar-i-Sharif, claimed unidentified gunmen kidnapped a child named Yousuf in Kart-i-Bakhtar area two days ago.
He added: “The men were carrying weapons and we could not tell them apart from security forces.”
Salim, another resident, alleged some armed individuals, in the guise of security forces, committed robberies in Dehdadi district.
According to Salim, these robbers have been detained by the security forces and are currently in their custody.
He emphasised on the government to provide security forces with proper uniforms so that criminal activities could be prevented.
Other residents held similar on the issue, asking the authorities concerned to consider their proposal.
Referring to residents’ views, police spokesman Mohammad Asif Waziri promised the security personnel would be equipped with uniforms at the earliest possible.
He said: “The police headquarters is striving to distribute special uniforms to police in two weeks so the people’s concerns can be addressed and security ensured.”
