Number of beds in Paktika hospital more than doubled

SHARANA (Pajhwok): The number of beds in the provincial hospital of southeastern Paktika province has been increased from 70 to 150 and 49 new doctors and paramedical staff have been hired to perform duty in various departments.

Public Health Department deputy head Dr. Mohammad Yaqub Patmal told Pajhwok Afghan News that the number of beds in the provincial hospital had been increased to 150.

He said the recruitment process of new employees has been launched and so far 47 specialists, doctors, administrative, technical and other workers have been fired after an exam to work in different departments of the hospital.

The remaining 12 positions, including doctors and specialists, will be filled through a second examination in the near future, he added.

In order to ensure transparency in the recruitment process, a supervisory committee has been formed by the Ministry of Public Health headed by Paktika public health department director.

Patmal said the new recruits included 30 percent women and 70 percent men specialists, doctors and technical staff. But he did not say how many people had applied for the 59 posts.

He said now surgeries were performed and urology, gynecology and obstetrics, mental and neurological and other diseases were being treated in Paktika provincial hospital.

After practical implementation of the upgrade, he said, the departments for surgery, internal medicine, gynecology, obstetrics and skin diseases would be separated and these diseases would be treated in separate wards.

Participants of the recruitment exam were satisfied with its transparency and said they would honestly perform their jobs after success.

One of the participants of the exam, Dr. Mohammad Nabi, told Pajhwok the exam was transparent. “I passed the internal medicine exam and I assure you that I will do my job honestly.”
