PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Top US and Pakistani defence officials have exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan.

Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa met US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin at the Pentagon on Tuesday afternoon.

“Both sides had convergence on major international issues, including Afghanistan,” said the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

In a statement, the army’s media wing said they underlined the need for cooperation to avoid a humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

Gen. Bajwa and Austin also agreed on the imperative of improving peace and stability in the region, the ISPR statement added.

The army chief, who is on a weeklong visit to America, also called on US National Security Advisor (NSA) Jake Sullivan and Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman.
