Over 200 Daikundi residents get work opportunities

NEILI (Pajhwok): BRAC-Afghanistan announced on Thursday creating 240 job opportunities through a reconstruction project in central Daikundi province.

BRAC-Afghanistan officials said the NGO launched some agricultural, health and business programmes as part of the reconstruction project.

The scheme is aimed to generate employment opportunities for men and women in Daikundi.

Ewaz Ali Poya, the head of the Daikundi BRAC office, said the project would be implemented with financial support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in the provincial capital and Pato district.

Poya said BRAC would train 240 youth on agricultural techniques and business methods for a period of six months. The trainees will be offered necessary equipment at the end of the programme.

BRAC will also train 80 women on poultry farming, 40 men and women on tailoring, 40 men on growing mushrooms, as many on apiculture and 40 women on livestock farming.

On completing the training courses, they would get the opportunity to work, Poya said.

He added the project would also dispatch four more health teams to Pato district and Neili to provide residents health services and restore eight health centres. At least 30 mosques will be provided with solar power systems.

The BRAC office has received 100 job-generating drafts from Daikundi youth, who will be supported financially.

It will also support 35 other local businesswomen in order to save their businesses from failure.

Local officials, meanwhile, appreciated the BRAC-Afghanistan initiative that was launched around two and a half months ago.

Information and Culture Director Sayed Mustafa Saleh commended the project and hoped it would yield positive results for residents.
