3-day ‘Afghan Lajward’ exhibition kicks off in Herat City

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The exhibition of local products ‘Afghan Lajward’ has kicked off in Herat City, the capital of western Herat province, in the presence of high ranking acting government officials.

Acting Commerce Minister Nooruddin Aziz during the opening of exhibition, said: “The situation of industries in the industrial park of this province has improved now comparing to the past.”

He said currently 5,000 factories are functional in the country and was manufacturing different things.

By shrinking import and creating more facilities, the government had been able to increase exports by 35 percent this year comparing to the past.

 

Khan Jan Alkozai, assistant head of the Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said the export had surged and up to 1.5 billion export was estimated by year end.

He said he cotton growing was increasing in the country and it is expected that 60,000 tonnes of cotton would be exported.

Herat Chamber of Commerce and Industry Head Hameedullah Khadem said different handicraft products had been put on displace in this exhibition.

He added 150 stalls had been erected and the exhibition would continue for three days.

He stressed the need for lending support to women entrepreneurs and efforts should be made to facilitate the export of their products.

Female stallers said the exhibition would help promote their handicraft products.
