Authorities urged to thwart target killing incidents

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Residents in northern Balkh province have expressed concerns over the target killing of renowned physician Dr. Asadullah Shariq and demand the prevention of such incidents.

Dr. Shariq was killed near of his house in Mazar-i-Sharif by unknown gunmen last Wednesday.

Balkh residents termed the safety and security of cadre, professional and academic personalities the duty of the authorities and believed that security institutions should stop violent incidents.

Asghar, the resident of Balkh province, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “If the assassination of cadre and professional individuals continue this will harm our society and widen gap between the government and masses.”

He called on the government to take effective steps for the safety and security of people.

Anisa, the resident of Mazar-i-Shafif City, also termed the safety and security of people the duty of government and asked the government to stop such incidents.

She said the assassination of Dr. Shariq should be investigated and individuals behind the incident should be punished as per the law.

Balkh Police Chief Mohammad Asif Waziri said: “Security institutions received information regarding the murder of slain doctor. We assure his family that individuals involved in the murder would be arrested and punished as per law.”

He assured Balkh residents that security situation were improved and 70 alleged criminals had been arrested in the past one month.

It is pertinent to mention that last year another renowned doctor Prf. Nader Alami was also assassinated in Balkh.
