Focus on extending Ukraine grain deal: Erdogan

KABUL (Pajhwok): Turkey has promised sustained efforts for the extension of the Ukraine grain deal, which expires in a fortnight.

At a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Friday, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed continued focus on extending the agreement.

“It was decided to focus efforts on the extension of the deal in the near future,” Erdogan said in a statement from his office.

He called for the immediate resumption of dialogue between Russia and Ukraine on ending their ongoing war.

After his arrival in Ankara on Thursday, the NATO chief met Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu before talks with Defense Minister Hulusi Akar on Friday.

Earlier in the week, Kiev promised the grain corridor will not be used for military purposes and that it was resuming its participation in the deal.

On the other hand, Moscow says it reserves the right to walk out of the agreement if Kiev violated its commitments.
