KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi has termed Pakistani police recent ill treatment of Afghan refugees as unfair, provoking and harmful for the cordial ties of the both countries, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Friday.

Muttaqi said this during a meeting with the newly appointed Pakistani Envoy to Afghanistan Obaidurrahman Nizamani here.

Pakistani ambassador pledged that he would convey the messages and concerns of Afghanistan to relevant authorities in Pakistan and assured to settle all issues.

Nizamani said that Pakistan and Afghanistan were two neighbouring countries with shared religious, cultural and economic interests and added that Islamabad will not allow anyone to derail ties between the two nations.

Earlier, Afghanistan has strongly condemned Pakistani police unfair behavior with Afghan refugees and demanded Islamabad to ensure the prevention of such incidents in the future.

Recently, Afghan refugees had been harassed and misbehaved in different cities of Pakistan and particularly in the Sindh province by police, MoFA said in a statement.

Former Afghan president Hamid Karzai also said that Pakistan detained 1,100 Afghan refugees, including women and children. He asked Pakistani government to behave with Afghan refugees in line with the international law and norms.
