More than 17,000 beggars collected in Kabul so far

KABUL (Pajhwok): More than 17000 beggars have so far been collected from various areas of Kabul city, the government said on Saturday.

In a press release, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs office said the beggars collection committee had collected 17,262 beggars from different areas of Kabul city so far.

It said the rounded up individuals included 10,145 women and 3,908 of them were found deserving after an evaluation and 6,237 others were identified as professional beggars.

Among the total beggars collected, 1,577 were men and among them 562 were found deserving and 1,015 others as professional beggars

The statement said 5,545 children were among the collected people and of them 2,230 were deserving, 3,250 professional and 60 were orphaned children.

It said the orphaned children were enrolled in the training school of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and there they were imparted education and served food.

The deserving beggars receive continuous cash assistance from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the statement said.
