KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has affirmed its commitment to upholding the rights of all citizens, including women.
Women’s rights were respected in Afghanistan more than ever before, the Taliban administration said on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
Bilal Karimi, deputy spokesman for IEA, the Islamic Shariah preserved the rights of all citizens, including women and girls.
Before the Taliban’s takeover, he alleged, rights of women and girls, including their rights to family, dignity, were not fully respected, were not fully respected.
Also on Friday, UNAMA called the protection of women’s rights a crucial factor for stability, prosperity and peace in Afghanistan.
Roza Otunbayeva, the UN secretary-general’s special representative for Afghanistan, stressed the need for protecting Afghan women’s rights.
“Concrete steps need to be taken for an enabling environment which is free from all forms of violence,” the Kyrgyz diplomat said.
