MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): Work on the construction of Kabul-Herat Highway was underway in Central Maidan Wardak province \ but local people have demanded the construction to be accelerated so the project is complete before winter.
People in Maidan Wardak province have said that work on the construction of Kabul-Herat highway started three months earlier in Maidan Wardak but this portion was still remained incomplete.
Rahmatullah, one of the drivers, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Three months earlier, work on the construction of Kabul-Herat road started in Maidan Wardak which is a positive step but this work should be completed quickly before it could cause road blockaded during winter.”
He said there was need for strong monitoring of the project and forced the contract holding company to accelerate its work.
“Over the few months the construction work of small bridges was underway and traffic were moving in alternative ways. We want the work to be completed promptly.”
Local residents too have asked government to accelerate the construction work.
Ahmadzia, senior engineer of the construction contract of the Kabul-Herat road blamed the Ministry or Public Works for the delay in the construction project.
He said: “The Ministry of Public Work handed over the design of the road construction two months after the inauguration of the project and it was the main reason behind the delay in the work.”
But the ministry blamed short days for the delay in the work.
Public Works Director Mawlavi Shafiullah Ahmad said: “It is natural that there are problems in the beginning of a work but the main reason behind the delay in the construction work on Kabul-Ghazni road was the shortness of days in this period of the year.”
