Oil producing factory employing 40 people opens in Jawzjan

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): A cooking oil producing factory employing 40 people has been put into operation in this capital city of northern Jawzjan province.

Baz Mohammad, manager of the “Turkistan Oil Production Factory”, said the plant had the capacity to produce 12 tons of oil a day from sesame and cotton seeds.

He said the purpose of establishing the factory was to use farmers’ agricultural products and create job opportunities for poor families.

He pointed out that he buys raw materials for oil production from farmers of Jawzjan, Faryab and Sari Pul provinces.

QariEbadullahAnsar, head of the Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, said: “We support the establishment of such factories that create job opportunities for the residents of this province.”

He said such factories facilitate farmers in selling their agricultural products at reasonable rates.

According to Ansar, previously farmers of Jawzjan province would go to Balkh, Kabul, Herat, Kandahar and Nangarhar to sell their products due to the lack of suitable market.

Sakhidad, a resident of Darzab district of Jawzjan province and member of one of the families affected by the past war, says he is happy for being given job in the factory.

He said before joining the factory he would rarely find work and would often return home empty-handed.

His salary is 10,000 afghanis per month and hopes their wages will increase with the increase in production of the factory.

In Jawzjan province, the use of sesame and cottonseed oil is common.
