12 people publicly flogged in Helmand’s Nad Ali district

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): A dozen people, including a woman, were flogged in public on Wednesday after being convicted of various crimes in the Nad Ali district of southern Helmand province, an official said.

Maulvi Mohammad Qasim Riaz, deputy director of the Information and Culture Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News:”Today, 12 people, including a woman, were whipped in public in line with the order of the primary court of Nad Ali district.”

He said the convicts had been accused of theft and illicit relationship and they had confessed to their crimes before the court.

Qasim said the convicts were lashed 10 to 39 times in public.

Last week, 20 people were publicly flogged after being convicted of theft and adultery in Lashkargah city, the provincial capital.
