Turkmenistan renews electricity contract with Afghanistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): Turkmenistan says it will renew electricity contract with Afghanistan for the next year and would accelerate the completion of Noor Aljihad substation in Herat province.

Noor Aljihad substation is situated in Herat province and the Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat (DABS) signed an agreement with Turkmenistan to enhance the capacity of substation from 110 kilovolt to 220 kilovolt. After its work completion 100MW electricity would be transferred to Herat from Turkmenistan.

According to the DABS, in August an agreement was reached with Turkmen side regarding the Andkhoi-Shiberghan-Pul-i-Khumri 500 kilovolt lane that Turkmen side will provide financial and technical proposals to the DABS and final decision would be taken after the consent of high ranking officials.

In a statement the DABS said that Executive Director Mollah Mohammad Hanif Hamza on Saturday held a meeting with Turkmenistan Breshna Shirkat Director Chari Jomayov and discuss matters related to Noor Aljihad substation and electricity contract for 2023.

Hamza hailed Turkmenistan support and cooperation in the area of power transmission and demanded the continuation of this cooperation.

Jomayove assured Afghan side of full cooperation and said that the completion of Noor Aljihad substation will be completed in time as well.

He added Turkmenistan was ready to renew electricity transfer contract with Afghanistan for the upcoming year.

According to the DABS currently 150MW electricity was generated at home, 440MW was imported from Tajikistan, 202MW from Turkmenistan and 102MW from Iran.
