493 people died from Covid-19 in Afghanistan in 2022

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) says positive Covid-19 cases decreased by 53 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year.

Doctor SharafatZaman, MoPH spokesperson, told Pajhwok Afghan News the ministry registered 49,000 positive Covid-19 cases in 2022 while 493 people died from the disease and over 40,000 recovered.

In 2021, according to MoPH figures, 620,000 people underwent tests and more than 105,000 of them were diagnosed with the virus and of them 5,145 people died and over 103,000 recovered.

Compared to the previous two years, positive Covid-19 cases dropped by 53 percent while the fatality rate decreased by 90 percent in 2022.

Zaman about the decrease in positive cases said after the pandemic breakout, experts of medical sciences prepared some guidelines about how to fight the infection and some vaccines were also produced.

He said the virus was controlled through health guidelines and vaccination in the world.

According to him, over 12 million people in Afghanistan got vaccinated against the disease.

The Covid-19 virus was first detected in Wuhan city of China, has since then infected 548 million people around the world with over six million others dying from it.

According to MoPH figures, since the pandemic break-out in Afghanistan, over 207,000 people were inflicted and 7,800 died from it.
