KABUL (Pajhwok): The Salang highway, connecting Kabul with northern provinces, has reopened for traffic from both sides, the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) said on Saturday.
The key highway had been shut for all kinds of traffic over the past 24 hours due to cold weather and as part of efforts to avert possible causalities.
The MoPW tweeted that the highway maintenance authority cleared the road of snow at 10:30pm and vehicles were allowed to move in both directions. Cargo trucks will be allowed to ply it later on.
The ministry urged all passengers to equip vehicles with chains and other gears and wear warm clothes while travelling the highway.
