Nearly 3000 acres of govt land reclaimed in Sherzad district

JALALABAD (Pajhwok):  Government land measuring nearly 3,000 acres has been wrested back from usurpers in the Sherzad district of eastern Nangarhar province.

There was a dispute between two tribes on half of the land reclaimed, but no party possessed legal documents to claim its ownership, officials said.

Nangarhar Agriculture and Livestock director Abdul Sattar Muhammad, who heads a delegation tasked with reclaiming usurped government land, said in a statement sent to Pajhwok Afghan News that nearly 3,000 acres of government land was freed from its illegal occupants in the Sherzad district.

He said they visited Gandmak area of the district, where two tribes — Luqmankhel and Panangzai — had a dispute over the ownership of the desert measuring 1764 acres, but no party had any legal documents to prove their claim.

After an inspection by technical officials of the cadastre, the desert was determined to be the state property by members of the technical delegation.

Muhammad said leaders of both the tribes were warned against occupying and working in the land and of legal action in case of violation.

Separately, in the same area, 1097 acres of government land demarked by unauthorized persons for construction of buildings was also reclaimed by members of the technical delegation.

Muhammad said Sherzad district officials were asked not allow anyone to use the two lands.

So far in Nangarhar province, about 10,000 acres of government land has been wrested back from usurpers.
