World interested in interaction with IEA: Griffiths

KABUL (Pajhwok): A top UN official says that international community was interested in maintaining interaction with the ‘Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’ (IEA) to address existing issues, according to a statement on Wednesday.

Martin Griffiths, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, during a meeting with Mullah Abdul Ghani Beradar, the acting prime minister aide, said interaction between the international community and IEA was necessary for forging ties and a best opportunity at this stage was available.

Beradar added poppy cultivation, and administrative corruption had eradicated after the takeover of the IEA, a statement from his office said.

“Security is vital for self-economic reliance and sustainability and currently Afghanistan is fully secured,” he added.

“The IEA had resolved all issues in the way of the country’s development and that were major concern of the international community. Now it was the time that the international community should play vital role for Afghanistan’s development and prosperity,” he said.

“We hail improved security, general amnesty, eradication of corruption, treatment of drug addicts and other important steps taken by the IEA,” said the top UN official.

He said comparing to the past 40 years, situation in Afghanistan was better now and there were hopes for the bright future of the people of Afghanistan.
