Date orchards being planted in Helmand

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): The Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock department of southeastern Helmand provinces says date orchards will be planted on about 250 acres of land in near future.

Maulvi Zainullah Zahid, deputy director of the department, told Pajhwok Afghan News that farmers had turned to growing date orchards after the ban on cultivation of poppy in the country.

“Date trees need less water and Helmand’s climate suits them.”

He said the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock had given them enough budget for establishing date orchards.
