TALOQAN (Pajhwok): The fortification work of Panj River sides has started in northern Takhar province at the cost of 19 million afs, an official said on Thursday.

Takhar Governor Mawlavi Ziaurrahman Madani said past government paid no attention to the problems of Mawara-i-Kokcha district and their problems remained as it is.

He said as a result of the fortification work thousands of acres of agriculture land would be protected and 3,500 people will be able to get work opportunity as well.

He said the project will help protect the Yatim Tapa dyke and homes from the danger of water.

Eng. Abdul Wahdaf, head of the Panj River Zone, said the project will cost over 19 million afs which will be provided by the Energy and Water Ministry.

Local residents were thrilled about the project and stressed similar more project should be implemented.
