MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Yesterday’s floods destroyed hundreds of homes and hundreds of acres of farmland in the Zari district of northern Balkh province, wiping out livelihoods of farmers.
Police spokesman Mohammad Asif Waziri told Pajhwok Afghan News the floods emerged in many parts of Zari district at 5:30pm Thursday, destroying 300 houses and inundating more than 15,00 acres of agricultural land.
He added that the floods also swept away many animals, but he had no information about human fatalities.
Waziri said security personnel had reached the area to rescue people marooned.
