Many stranded as snow blocks Ghor-Kabul highway

FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): Many passenger vehicles have been stranded since last night after heavy snow blocked the Ghor-Kabul highway in western Ghor province.

Ibrahim, one of the stranded passengers on the highway, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Our vehicles have been stranded due to snow and mud since last night (Saturday night). Children and women are in these vehicles and the government should rescue them.”

Faridon, another passenger stuck at Bakak Kotal, said: “Several passenger cars are stuck on the highway, if no action is taken to save them soon, they would face problems. More than 40 cars are stuck there.”

Abdul Wahid Hamas, the governor’s spokesman, said that following rain and snowfall last night, the Ghor-Kabul highway was closed for traffic at the Kotal Bekak area. He said six passenger vehicles were also stuck in the mud.

He said efforts were underway to rescue the stranded passengers and reopen the road.
