Afghanistan seeks world support to strengthen health sector

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has urged the international community’s assistance to ensure the provision of health service to every citizen in the country.

Acting Health Minister Dr. Qalandar Ebad made the appeal on the World Health Day.

He said: “I am happy that the World Health Day of this year is celebrated under the great and hopeful slogan of ‘Health for All’.”

The health services must be permanent, forever, impartial and for all of the humanity, every human of the world has the right to have access to health services that he/she was entitled to.

Creating more health centers in remote parts of Afghanistan, empowering the nutrition program, building the capacity of health providers, providing more equipment for the treatment and diagnosis are the parts where this country still needs assistance, Ebad added.

He further added, in the past, 50 percent of the population was deprived from the health services, there were no health centers in remote areas at all, the available services were substandard and imaginary, the access to health services faced many challenges, that is why more work is needed in Afghanistan’s health sector.

The Ministry of Public Health once again expressed its commitment to provide standard services to every person of this country and expressed hope that the current committed regime and international community will solve all the remaining existing problems of health sector as well.

The World Health Organization, without providing more detail said that it will celebrate the 75th anniversary of World Health Day.

Since decades no considerable development has been made about the health sector in Afghanistan and many Afghan are being forced to seek their treatment in other countries.
