Jawzjan school students get new textbooks

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Education has sent Hundreds of textbooks to northern Jawzjan province to address the shortage issue of school books in the province, an official said on Monday.

The development comes at a time when students in Jawzjan province complained against the lack of text books.

Barakatullah, the student of class ninth in Shiberghan High School, said the lack of textbooks was a major issue and hope that the distribution of new text books will start soon.

“We got the news that new books had arrived. We are happy that our new books will be distributed and we will study in the best manner. Last year we did not have books and were unable to purchase them as well,” he said.

Mohammad, the student of one of the Shiberghan High Schools, said he had to take note when there is no book adding that other students were also facing similar issues.

Jawzjan Education Director Mawlavi Mohammad Tahir Jawad said the lack of text books was one of the major issues over the past few years but this time the problem had been resolved.

He said the Ministry of Education allocated 900,000 books from class nine to 12th for Jawzjan out of which 500,000 had been dispatched and the remaining will be sent as well.

The said the problem of the lack of text books would be resolved after the distribution of new books.

“We started the distribution process of books today in the districts and Shiberghan and would be completed till the next week,” he said.

Naqibullah Hamdard, one of the teachers, said the lack of text books was one of the major issues over the past several years.

He added the availability of books encourages students to come to school and develop greater interest in learning.
