Cattle being vaccinated against lumpy skin disease in Wardak

MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): The vaccination of cattle against contagious lumpy skin was launched in central Maidan Wardak province on Sunday  with the financial support of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

As part of the campaign that will cost 6.3 million afghanis, 99,000 doses of lumpy skin disease vaccine will be given to cows and calves.

Provincial Agricial and Livestock director Mohammadullah Shaheedzoi told Pajhwok that two doctors in each district would administer the vaccine to cows and calves during a period of two months.

He said the vaccination would control the disease in the province and prevent its spread.

Farmers were happy that their cattle were being given the vaccine against lumpy skin disease, but demanded that other animals should also be vaccinated against the disease.

Maidan Shahr resident Hamidullah told Pajhwok that the lumpy skin disease had spread cattle in the area and had confronted livestock owners with problems.

He hoped the vaccine would be effective in protecting their animals from the contagious disease.
