FEROKOH (Pajhwok): Residents of western Ghor province have demanded of the government to provide them with telecom services.

Ahmadullah, a resident of Ghaar village in Allahyar district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that they used to climb a hill to make a voice call.

He urged local officials and representatives of telecom companies to install antennas in their area to solve the problem.

Abdul Rauf, a resident of Chaharsada district, expressed similar view, saying they were long deprived of telecom services.

He said not a single telecom network was functional in their district and the residents had no access internet services. He urged the telecommunication authorities to address the issue on a priority basis.

Eid Mohammad Paiman, a resident of Ferozkoh, said every time while travelling on the Ghor-Kabul or Ghor-Herat roads, antennas of telecommunication networks did not work in many areas.

He said: “The government has the responsibility to activate telecommunication networks to make it easier for people and travelers on public routes to have access to mobile and internet services any time.”

Local officials said they were working in coordination with telecommunication companies to extend telecommunication services to districts and remote areas of the province.

Abdul Wahid Hamas, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok: “Efforts are on to establish telecom sites, AWCC network has activated a site in Sarjangal area of Lal district, and the same work is underway in some other areas.”
