PARON (Pajhwok): Construction work of three projects worth 25 million afghanis has been initiated in the Noorgram district of eastern Nuristan province.
Local authorities said the schemes, financially supported by the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization, included the construction of canals and watercourses in Wodo Dara area.
Maulvi Mohammad Ali Farooqi, director of river basin, said with the completion of the schemes, 200 acres of land would be irrigated and three reservoirs built — each having the capacity to hold 120,000 litres of water.
He said dozens of young people had been provided with job opportunities on the projects.
Sediqullah, a resident of the district, said: “With the implementation of these projects, all rain-fed lands will be converted into farmlands.”
